Felt humbled and privileged with felicitation by Ch Charan Singh University Meerut (my Alma Mater) for winning Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Award-2015 (Biological Sciences) on 28th March, 2016. Many thanks to my teacher & mentor Professor PK Gupta, HOD Genetics & Plant Breeding & Dean Faculty of Agriculture, Professor PK Sharma, and other faculties like Professor HS Balyan, Dr Sachin Kumar, Dr S Gaurav and their team for organizing the felicitation. A team of 51 scientists from 9 institutes in China, India, USA and Australia, including the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT), have decoded genome of the ancestor of the peanut, the diploid A-genome (Arachis duranensis). Other significant traits this could help develop include aflatoxin-free, nutrition-rich and allergen-free varieties. The breakthrough also provides insights into geocarpy - a unique reproductive process of the peanut, oil biosynthesis and allergens. The important findings have been published in the prestigious journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS), USA on 31 May 2016.
